Urban Releaf ED Kemba Shakur was recently featured on NBCBayArea’s “Bay Area Proud” community affairs program . Reporter Garvin Thomas interviewed Shakur at the Urban Releaf office in North Oakland and joined the UR team for our recent Earth Day Tree-plantings in Fruitvale and East Oakland.
“When the subject is trees in the city of Oakland, no one rivals Kemba,” Thomas says. In the segment, Shakur not only advocates for trees, but also for youth development. “If we just invest more in our young people, I think we can do wonders,” she says. Thomas goes on to recount how Urban Releaf has planted more than 15,000 trees, then says, “to say Kemba is not yet done is an understatement,” detailing Urban Releaf’s proposed Million-Tree Initiative.
Big thanks to Garvin and NBC for recognizing the work Urban Releaf does in the community!
